Top 5: Announcements from D23 Expo 2017

For those that don’t know, I have a small obsession with “Top 5” lists. Fast food chains, video games, cereal, CD’s, etc. This really gets challenging when it comes to things related to Disney. While it is still fresh in my mind, the D23 Expo had many exciting announcements for the future of Disney parks. Here are the top 5 park announcements that I’m most looking forward to.

5. Space themed restaurant in Epcot (Future World)

To me, this announcement has old school Epcot Center theming all over it. It has that futuristic quality that reminds me of the early days of Epcot.

Here is what we know about the restaurant so far. It will be located next to the Mission: Space ride (which makes perfect sense) and will offer guests views high above Earth.

There is not much themed dining at Epcot in Future World so this restaurant will give the park a much needed boost in table dining. I predict this will be a very popular restaurant.

4. Ratatouille Attraction at the France Pavilion (World Showcase)

This was a rumor that Disney finally confirmed during the parks panel at the expo. This ride already exists in Disneyland Paris, and from what I have heard, is really cool.

It’s a 4-D experience where you are shrunken down to the size of Remy and have to escape the clutches of Chef Skinner. It will be located in the France pavilion and is said to be opening in 2021.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction in Epcot (Future World)

Little has been given in regards to details of this attraction. What we do know is that it will replace Universe of Energy – Ellen’s Energy Adventure (long overdue).

I’m sure in the coming months, Disney will reveal more about what this ride will entail. They did mention that when Peter Quill (Star Lord) was a child, he visited Epcot Center. That storyline is how they are tying in GOTG to the park.

2. Tron Lightcycle Rollercoaster in Tomorrowland (Disney World)

Ever since this was announced for Shanghai Disney, I have wanted to go to China and ride this attraction. Now I can ride it in FL, when it opens in 2021. That’s the expected completion date.

While it was rumored that it would replace The Tomorrowland Speedway, Disney says it will keep the speedway and build Tron next to Space Mountain. I’m already imagining the long wait times for this ride.

1. Star Wars Themed Hotel (Disney World)

I am very excited about this announcement. I’ve never thought of a Star Wars themed hotel and yet it makes perfect sense. There is so much material to pull from. If this is done correctly, this will be an amazing hotel/experience.

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek said: “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story. You will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive.”

Where do I sign up? I predict this will possibly be the most expensive Disney hotel to stay in to date, and trying to reserve a room will be very difficult. Time will tell. My hope is the hotel is for adults and not just kids.

Are there any announcements you are excited for? There were quite a few at this year’s expo. There were many that have me excited, but these are the 5 I’m most excited for.
